Knotted Pine

Who was I when you met me
Who was I when you passed
Do either sit beside you
patiently at your right hand
Does my home wait for coming
is mama singing Clementine
I can hold it in a picture
all framed in Knotted Pine
Who was I when you met me
Who was I when you passed
who tended all the gardens
I can see through beveled glass
Tell the widows on the dance floor
not to darken down the hall
I will be there Sunday evening
when the band plays the last waltz
Who was I when you met me
Who was I when you passed
do either sit beside you
patiently at your right hand
I can see Lucille in her Summer dress
I can hear those church bells chime
I can hold it in a picture
all framed in knotted pine

After This

When did he, write her off
When did she, write her off
Oh he’s wondering
Where they’re going
After this ends
Oh he’s wondering
Where they’re going
After this ends
When did he, write a song
When did she, decide to sing along
Oh she’s wondering
Where they’re going
After this ends
Oh she’s wondering
Where they’re going
After this ends
So bewildered I wrote
So bewildered you wrote
Bemuse over me
You can use all of me
It’s bemusing to me
It’s like music to me
When did this, become our song
When’s it time, to turn it off

Day in the Country
04:21
|
|||
The snowflakes shudder in the soundless sky
I followed your footprints with my watering eye
Built towering nests of icicle sticks
And nestled we two till Winter lost its grip
One morning’s sun shook dust from the trees
You blinked and then you asked me: do you remember me?
I answered with words likely never so true
A day in the country is like a season slipping away with you
Four feet in boots, two thumbs to the wind
On mile-high roads too wandering, too wandering to end
At mountain’s base, we ached for the peak
Like a hundred thousand miners, whose wandering hearts did seek
We two at the river, we two by the fire
While whispering aspen much too polite to inquire
They watched over us from wavering heights
A day in the country, like a thousand mountain nights
